The Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA) is a corporate body established by law and is responsible for the provision, maintenance and development of telecommunications facilities, both local and overseas. Since the beginning of 2003 the telecommunications market has been liberalised so is now open for other telecommunication providers.

Services provided by CYTA include fixed telephony, mobile telephony (pay monthly and pay as you go), data transmission, telegraphy, maritime, TV transmission/ reception, private leased circuits, audio text, video conferencing, ISDN, DSL, Internet and ATM/Frame Relay.


Fixed Telephony Services
Customers can access from Cyprus essentially all countries in the world through telephone and telefax (for countries that do not support telefax service, telex is also available).

Off-peak Telephone Rates
CYTA offers reduced telephone rates (fixed telephony) for national and international calls during off-peak hours as follows:
Off-peak hours for National calls: 20:00-07:00 during weekdays and all day on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.
Off-peak hours for International calls : 21:00-08:00 during weekdays and all day on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.

Directory Inquiries
By calling the number 192, you can get a 24-hour service for directory inquiries regarding customers in Cyprus, whereas for foreign customers, country codes and area codes you can get information by dialing 194.

Public Cardphones and Payphones
Public telephones of CYTA are installed at various central
locations in all towns and villages as well as at International airports, harbours and other locations. There are three types of public telephones, Coinphones, Outdoor cardphones and indoor cardphones. All public payphones can be used for both national and international calls. In all payphones, dialing instructions as well as charges rates are posted.
Telecards of L3, L5 and L10 can be purchased at any CYTA shop, at banks, post offices, kiosks and other shops.
Coin-operated payphones accept coins of 2,5,10 and 20 cent denominations.
Public telephones of other providers are also installed at various central locations.

Telecards Collectors Service
This service provides its members with telecards issued by CYTA, including telecards series available on the market, collectable telecards and telecards issued on behalf of various companies for promotional purposes distributed solely by the companies themselves. Both residents of Cyprus as well as residents from overseas may become members by completing an application form at any CYTA shop or by sending an electronic request to telecardclub@cyta.com.cy

Prepaid calling cards (CYTA COMMcard)
CYTA COMMcard, is a prepaid calling card that allows you to make calls from your mobile phone, your hotel phone or any other fixed telephone and charge the calls to the card instead of the phone you are calling from. Using the service is very simple as you are guided all the way through a series of friendly prompts.

Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN)
ISDN is the service that enables speed, quality and reliability in the transmission of voice, images and data, via a digital line. There are two different types of accesses. The Basic Rate access (2B+D) provides the customers with two (2) B-channels on a single line and the Primary Rate access (30B+D) which provides the customer with thirty (30) B-channels on a single line.

ATM/Frame Relay Services
ATM/Frame Relay Services provides a new method of high-speed data transmission based on frames/cells and makes the best possible use of the transmission media. These services allow the transmission of all kinds of information - voice, video and data - via a single high-speed network connection.
Cytamobile-Vodafone Mobile Telephony
Cytamobile-Vodafone is the CYTA mobile telephony brand, following a CYTA partnership agreement with Vodafone in the beginning of 2004.
Travelers may use their mobile phones in Cyprus, provided that a roaming agreement between Cytamobile-Vodafone and their mobile service provider is in place. In the beginning of 2003, roaming agreements had been signed between CYTA and 245 service providers in 103 countries worldwide. pay monthly
There are two Cytamobile-Vodafone pay monthly plans currently in existence: Light , which is intended for customers who do not wish to make many calls and Classic , which is intended for customers with average to high use. To connect to either one of the pay monthly plans, the customer needs to sign a contract with CYTA.

soeasy pay as you go
soeasy is the Cytamobile-Vodafone pay as you go plan, designed for those customers who wish to enjoy the advantages of mobile telephony without signing a contract and without having to pay monthly bills. With soeasy the customers can control their monthly expenditure by paying for their calls in advance. It is very easy and quick to become a soeasy customer. All one has to do is to buy a soeasy Connection Pack and top-up his/her account using top-up Cards. The soeasy Connection Pack and top-up Cards are available throughout the country at kiosks and other points of sale. There are three different values of top-up Cards worth L5, L10 (+L1 free bonus) and L20 (+L3 free bonus).

cybee services
cybee services are offered to all Cytamobile-Vodafone customers regardless of whether they are connected to a pay monthly or pay as you go plan. cybee services, offer quick and immediate access to live football results, where to find the closest pharmacy, helps you find a person's/ a business's/ a restaurant's phone number, and other information anytime and anywhere, through various access methods like sms, wap, or web.

Visitors Yellow Pages
The Cyprus Visitors Yellow Pages is a new guide especially designed to give easy access to any information a visitor might need during his/her stay in Cyprus. In the guide a visitor can find useful tourist information, plenty of ideas for entertainment and leisure, maps and a comprehensive classified directory which can be used as a complete shopping guide. In the guide, the "Visitors Discount Card" is also included. This discount card can be used in a wide range of shops and enterprises that advertise in the guide, allowing you to obtain reduced prices for your purchases. The guide is available free of charge in most hotel rooms.

Internet

Although the telecommunications market has been completely liberalised at the beginning of 2003, the Internet market was open for other providers since 1995.
Cytanet
CYTANET, is the largest Internet service provider in Cyprus offering Internet services to individuals, corporate customers as well as to other Internet Service Providers, based in Cyprus or neighbouring countries. CYTANET offers a complete and competitive service portofolio that includes connectivity, hosting of WAP services, etc. CYTANET provides connections via the telephone network (56 kbps), the ISDN (64kbps and 128kbps) and the ADSL (Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line) (640kbps). Cytanet for All
With the introduction of this service CYTANET is accessible by all with no monthly subscription. It provides fast, easy and simple connection to the Internet world. Broadband Networks and Services
l-choice
l-choice service provides an interactive, intelligent and personalised choice of data and information via CYTA's broadband network. Several Internet Service Providers and company intranets as well as thousands of consumers are connected to the broadband network. This can become the main infrastructure for the provision of fast Internet services, video and programmes on demand as well as other interactive services through multimedia.

The i-choice connection through the use of a telephone line and additional equipment provides access to CYTAs' broadband network which is up to 10 times faster than the ordinary digital telephone connection (ISDN 64kbps). DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) technology is behind this connection, giving i-choice subscribers the following capabilities:
A permanent connection to the broadband network
A fixed monthly charge, with no per minute charge
The ability to talk on the phone and at the same time surf
the Internet or connect to a company's intranet
Fast connection with speeds up to 20 times faster than those
currently available.
The i-choice service is available for home as well as business use.

miVision
miVision is a pioneering service which is the result of the convergence between information technology and digital TV transmission in order to serve all the customer's needs in terms of entertainment, information and communication.

miVision carries digital sound and vision through a telephone line and delivers it through a Set-Top Box to the customer's TV.
